Finally made it out to the Watts Towers. I was truly moved by Simon Rodia’s obsession with these towers. How does an untrained, unskilled man make something like this? That’s what really gets to me.
Top to bottom:
-Recycled glass and other items were used to make the towers.
-Those imprints you see were made with baskets.
-Simon Rodia’s initials and the imprints of the simple tools he used to build the towers.
-B was in town from Brooklyn and Watts Towers was on his LA checklist. Mine too!
Baked my first pie yesterday and it came out so good! Followed this recipe and added rosemary to the pie dough.
My father pretty much reigns the backyard. He’s out there most of the day, plants all kinds of things, arranges how he likes, and collects random objects that he hides throughout the garden. It’s crazy out there.
synchronicity —n. an apparently meaningful coincidence in time of two or more similar or identical events that are causally unrelated.
My niece has recently gotten into making these. She comes over with a zip lock bag full of things she’s collected and then tapes them down on paper.
Top to bottom: beach study, plant study, and flower study.
